How to read this chart
VIN sequence tracks the line. BMW assigns VIN serials in blocks as orders are scheduled, and within a block the sequence rises with the build date — the slope is the pace. Individual cars do fall out of order, and other models sharing the same plant occupy their own blocks that are not shown here, so read this as the rhythm of this model’s share of the line, not total plant output.
Sold or stock
order priority code
are sold orders. The order sheet’s priority code says whether a car was sold to a customer (code 1) or ordered for the lot (code 3) — and cars found through listings skew toward the lot.

Option packages
OptionsBundled in packages
† Marked rows are inferred from package membership. BMW's build sheets only itemize some of what a package contains — the Technology Package lists Harman Kardon and nothing else — so the 3D Head-up Display and Iconic Glow exterior lighting show up on no build sheet despite being fitted to every car with that package. Their counts are the package's own take rate, not a per-car observation.
Stage times & the fine print
How long each stage takes
Measured only from cars we watched enter and leave a stage — nothing is guessed. Young medians; the counts show the evidence behind each.
