150 — Production begins

We haven’t measured enough cars crossing this stage to quote a number — in practice it tends to pass between two daily checks of BMW’s feed.

What it means

Your order has been accepted into the factory’s build plan — it has a slot on the schedule, a production number, and from BMW’s point of view it is now a car rather than a request. No metal has been cut yet.

This is usually the first status a tracker can see, and it can hold for a while: the slot is often assigned days or weeks before the line actually reaches your car. A VIN may not exist yet — it typically appears during this stage or the next.

Where these numbers come from. Stage times are measured on the iX3 fleet this site tracks daily — real observed transitions, measured since 2026-08-17, not estimates. The status codes themselves are BMW-wide: every US order walks the same pipeline, so the meanings hold for any model; exact durations vary by plant and route. BMW publishes only the current status — codes occasionally step backwards when a car is re-sequenced, and that usually sorts itself out in a day or two. Not affiliated with BMW.
