What it means

The car is on its way. For cars built overseas this is the ocean leg — the crossing to a US port typically runs on the order of two weeks, and BMW publishes nothing at all while the car is on the water, so a long silent gap at this stage is the crossing working as intended, not a stuck tracker. Cars built in North America make this leg by road and rail instead, and it goes much faster.

For a car that came by sea, after the ship docks it still has to clear the port and travel inland to the dealer, which adds days on top of the sailing itself.

Where these numbers come from. Stage times are measured on the iX3 fleet this site tracks daily — real observed transitions, measured since 2026-08-17, not estimates. The status codes themselves are BMW-wide: every US order walks the same pipeline, so the meanings hold for any model; exact durations vary by plant and route. BMW publishes only the current status — codes occasionally step backwards when a car is re-sequenced, and that usually sorts itself out in a day or two. Not affiliated with BMW.
